Katherine Stern

Born in Louisiana in 1983, Katherine Stern spent her childhood in Cajun country and South Texas, moving to New Mexico with her family during adolescence. She graduated with a fashion degree from New Mexico State University and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to work in high-end retail. While there she found her inspiration in the longing for the cultural roots that she had left behind. Infused with her Rock & Roll spirit, she began painting a world that blended her Country Western background with the Latin American culture she was exposed to during her youth. This aesthetic quickly expanded to include her love for reworking found objects that came from her family’s history in the antique business, where the story behind a piece is just as intriguing as the piece itself. She also works in hand hammered tin. With no formal training in the arts, Katherine blends folk art with the subjects that mean the most to her: music, nature, life, faith, and love.
