Rogers, Sulton

Sulton Rogers (1922 - 2003), was born and raised in Oxford, Mississippi, where he carved canes as a hobby, but lived most of his adult life in Syracuse, NY. He used to work as a factory supervisor, and began carving "haints" (haunts or ghosts, characters from his dreams) to surprise and startle his co-workers. He returned to Oxford in his retirement and continued carving his wonderfully fantastical figures until his death in early 2003.
