Smith, Mary T
In the late1970's, Mary T Smith (1904-1995) began painting pictures and crudely-lettered signs to brighten up her yard in Hazelhurst, Mississippi. Her simple, yet powerful figures most often depicted religious themes or pictures of friends, neighbors and animals, often accompanied by text.
