Tolliver, Mose
Mose Tolliver passed away Monday, October 30, 2006. Born in 1915, he began painting in the late '60s after his legs were crushed in an accident. He would hang his paintings in a tree in the front yard of his Montgomery, Alabama home to attract the attention of potential buyers. His work was included in the seminal 1982 show, at the Corcoran Gallery in D.C., "Black Folk Art in America." He was an amazing stylist whose subjects included birds, watermelons, flowers, women & self-portraits. Due to age and health he stopped painting several years before his death. He was a real national treasure and will be much missed.
