Michael Bartalos attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Pratt Institute. He uses all types of paper but leans towards archival when there's a choice, especially for the base mounting board. He most enjoys searching for cool hand-made "washi" on his trips to Japan that he can work into his pieces later on. The papers are glued down with Lineco neutral pH PVA (poly vinyl acetate) adhesive -- a permanent, water based, non-toxic glue. Michael is the designer of the Marathon commemorative U.S. postage stamp, and his images have appeared on Swatch watches, seasonal Perrier bottles, and ad campaigns for Guinness Breweries and Japan Air Lines. His work has been animated for Nickelodeon, Target, Virgin Records and Time Warner Cable. His children's book Shadowville is published by Viking. Michael lives in San Francisco.
