Lisa Brawn: Big Cats & Little Birds

Lisa Brawn is a woodcarving artist from Alberta, Canada whose work we've shown for many years. She carves and paints lovely portraits of birds into solid wood blocks, and we're featuring a number of those in this show. In addition to that we'll be showing a new series of carvings that Lisa started in 2021, during the pandemic. These works deploy invented ad copy and graphics in a genre satire critique of the marketing industry at this moment of our social and environmental dystopian crossroads. These new woodcuts are carved on curved oak seatbacks salvaged from the renovation of the Martha Cohen Theatre in Alberta.
