Shields Landon Jones (1901-1997) was a folk artist from West Virginia, known first for his wood carvings but also for his drawings on paper. After his retirement in 1967 from 45 years working on the railroad Mr. Jones took up carving with a pocket knife. When his pieces got larger he switched to using chisels. Later in his life he concentrated on his wonderfully simple and delightful drawings. Mr. Jones died Dec. 15, 1997.
